Samantha Tisnado, DVM
Dr. Tisnado has been practicing in the Richmond area since 2000, and joined the GAH staff in 2008. In 2013, Dr. Tisnado took over the practice from it's original owner, Dr. Gene Moon. In early 2015 Dr. Tisnado (along with two other local veterinarians) will celebrate the opening of a new clinic, John Rolfe Animal Hospital in John Rolfe Commons. Dr. Tisnado grew up in Richmond and attended the Collegiate Schools. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her veterinary degree from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. She enjoys soft tissue surgery and internal medicine. Dr. Tisnado currently lives in Salisbury. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and many pets.
Heather Murray, DVM
Dr Heather Murray grew up in the Harrisonburg area and received her undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech and her doctorate of veterinary medicine from the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. She's been practicing in the Richmond area since graduating and recently joined the team at Gayton Animal Hospital in 2018. Dr Murray's interests include surgery, pain management, and internal medicine. When she isn't working, she's spending time with her husband and two dogs.
Sarah Nash, DVM
Born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, Dr. Sarah Nash set down her southern roots in Williamsburg,
VA in 1995 after graduating from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After
a brief sojourn back to northern climes, she and her family returned to Virginia in 1999, this time
settling in the Richmond area. Dr. Nash joined the Gayton family in the spring of 2017. She
enjoys internal medicine and strives to make visits with her patients as low stress as possible. In
her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, hiking and goofing off with her family. The Nash
family is 2 boys, 2 cats, 2 dogs and one fabulous husband!
Chris Shand, LVT
Chris, a native of Richmond, is a graduate of St. Gertrude High School. After earning a degree in English from Virginia Tech, she spent eight years working for the federal government.
In 1985, she resigned from the government to reinvent herself --- the end result being an associate's degree in Veterinary Technology in 1987. She joined the Gayton staff that June, and has been here ever since.
She spends her free time reading "who-done-it's", going to movies, and caring for her cats and dog.
Vickie Barter, LVT
Vickie is a native of Virginia who joined the Gayton Animal Hospital team in November, 2011. She was a groomer and veterinary assistant before obtaining her AAS & LVT in May, 1990. Life has allowed her to stay in her field and focus on her passion for puppy socialization, behavior, and obedience, for over 28 years. Her motto is "Don't blame 'em, train 'em." Outside of work, Vickie enjoys spending time with her husband, Chris, RVing, wine tasting, hiking, and reading. She also has a 3 year-old Labradoodle named Nikita.
